Open Water Diver Course

CODE: OWD

Price: £389.00

Program Description

  • 5 Knowledge Development sessions.
  • 5 Skills Development sessions in a pool or pool-like conditions.
  • 4 Scuba dives in open water.

The PADI Open Water Diver Course is certifiable, enabling the qualified diver to charter dive boats, hire diving equipment, as well as acting as a platform for further diving qualifications. The course structure is based on performance, not time, which enables any person who may encounter difficulties with any aspect of the course, the opportunity to overcome these in their own time, with extra tuition from an instructor.

You are required to fill out a medical form prior to attending the course, you can save time by printing it out and bringing it with you to the course. If you answer 'yes' to any of the questions you should seek advice from your GP before attending the course. A guide for GPs is also in this file - you should take it with you to your GP.
Please note that you will not be able to complete any in water activities, even in the pool, if you answer 'yes' to any question, unless you have a doctors certificate confirming you are fit to dive. If you have any questions about this form, please contact the Dive Centre before attending the course to avoid disappointment.

Please ensure you have read the manual and completed the knowledge review sections for each chapter, or completed the theory online (Method 4), before attending the classroom sessions. The knowledge review pages will be removed from your manual and retained for our records so, if you wish to keep them, either copy the completed pages or download our answer sheet pages here.

Method 1
The duration of the course is two weekends. The first weekend is to complete the academics and diving skills in the pool. Each of these is broken down into five modules, which makes for easy learning. During this time you will be instructed on all the skills and knowledge required to dive safely and you will practice in the pool. The second weekend consists of four open water dives. The location of these dives is either an inland dive site in Leicestershire or at various coastal locations such as Portland, Wales or Horsea, depending on weather conditions. The lake has a number of items including a helicopter, Viscount fuselage and Piper aircraft and the coastal locations allow experience of tidal water and boat diving. More Details ...

Cost : £389 including :- All tuition, an official PADI manual and dive tables, pool sessions and use of Scuba equipment. Minimum age : 12 years old (no maximum age limit)

Please note: For the second weekend you will need to pay for travel costs, accomodation costs and air fills required for the four open water dives. Air fills are approximately £3.50 each. If we complete the open water dives at an inland site there is normally an entrance fee of around 15 pounds per day that is paid to the lake owners.

Method 2
If spare time is a problem at weekends, then this option gives you the opportunity to view the academics in the comfort of your own home, at your own leisure, by way of the PADI Open Water Course on CD ROM. The exam at the end would have to be completed at the Cambridge Dive and Watersports Centre, before going on to the pool and open water dives.

Costs and location of dives are as method 1.

Method 3
You can complete a dive course by way of referral. All the academics and pool work would be completed in this country then, after successful completion of both academics and pool skills, you will be given a referral note which enables you to complete the open water dives at any PADI dive centre world wide. Students opting for this method need only attend the first weekend of each course listed below.

Cost : £299 (additional fees will be charged by the dive centre that completes your open water dives).

Method 4
You can do the academic part of the course via the PADI eLearning web site then complete either just the pool work or both the pool work and the open water dives. More details on the PADI eLearning web site. There is also a fee of $120 (dollars) direct to PADI.

Cost : Pool only £225, Pool, open water dives and certification £299. See Method 1 for other open water costs.
It is also recommended you purchase a log book and a set of dive tables with this option - see below.

Completion only

If you have started the Open Water or Scuba Diver course abroad or with another PADI centre but didn't manage to finish it, you can complete the course with us. The cost of a referred Open Water Diver is £185 and covers the 4 open water dives. The cost of a referred Scuba Diver is £198 and covers the additional class and pool work and then the remaining open water dives. Please contact the shop for these options as we need to see your referral documentation.

Manuals
All required PADI manuals are supplied in the cost of the course for Methods 1,2 and 3, including a log book and a set of PADI dive tables and these are yours to keep on completion of the course. The exception to this is Method 4 - you do not require manuals as you have access to the online materials on the PADI web site, however you will need a log book and a set of dive tables. If you wish to purchase training materials the costs are:
